Do Schools Kill Creativity?

by Steven Hourston on June 11, 2012

Coffee break posts are sometimes slightly “off topic” from the main goal of this blog to help educate and equip you for greater success with your business. This one’s inspiring.

In this TED talk creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson challenges the way we’re educating our children. He champions a radical rethink of our school systems, to cultivate creativity and acknowledge multiple types of intelligence.

It’s worth watching just to enjoy his wonderful storytelling.

With 2 young boys and our third due in July (codename Hercules), I probably need to watch this video once a week to support their creative development. Our 5 year old goes to a brilliant, nurturing school and already his natural creativity is being channelled towards the “academic” subjects.

This video is also for any entrepreneur who has a dream, who sees the world a little differently and who wants to make a difference. As Ken says in the video “If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.”
