The Power of Vulnerability

by Steven Hourston on May 28, 2012

Coffee break posts are sometimes slightly “off topic” from the main goal of this blog to help educate and equip you for greater success with your business. Who knows some might prompt a spark of inspiration.

Here’s an excellent TED talk by Brené Brown where she shares her research into the importance of connection.

She’s a great storyteller and her insights into vulnerability and authenticity are worth listening to from a personal perspective. They’re also interesting in the context of your customer’s. After watching this you may understand them, connect with them and serve them better than before.

Brené Brown studies human connection; our ability to empathize, belong, love. In a poignant, funny talk at TEDxHouston, she shares a deep insight from her research, one that sent her on a personal quest to know herself as well as to understand humanity.

What a fantastic presentation, she really is a great storyteller. Many of my clients are nervous when they come to me and I’ve always thought they were just a little anxious. The vulnerability insight has got me thinking about what I can do differently.
